If you’re like us, the last few weeks of March always feel like the longest part of winter.
Fly boxes are being reorganized. Waders are getting checked for leaks. Rods are coming out of storage. And every angler in Alberta is watching the calendar as April 1st approaches.
For many rivers across the province, April 1 marks the start of another fishing season — and at StreamSight, we couldn’t be more excited.
This year marks an important step forward for the platform, and we wanted to take a moment to share what we’ve been working on behind the scenes.
StreamSight Season Opener Giveaway
To kick off the 2026 season, we’re launching the StreamSight Season Opener Giveaway.
One lucky angler will receive a fully loaded fly box packed with proven patterns for early season fishing, including a mix of nymphs, streamers, and attractor patterns that are staples on Alberta rivers.
This box was built specifically with opening day conditions in mind — the type of flies you want when the water is cold, flows are unpredictable, and big fish are just starting to wake up.
Entering the giveaway is simple and free, and it also helps support the growth of StreamSight as we continue building a better way for anglers to monitor river conditions.
The winner will be drawn March 29th, giving plenty of time to get the flies shipped before opening day.
What We’re Building for 2026
Last season was a quiet test run for StreamSight.
A small group of anglers followed along while we experimented with camera locations, connectivity, and data delivery.
The response was incredibly encouraging.
This year we’re expanding.
StreamSight is working toward building a network of river cameras across Alberta, giving anglers a real-time look at water clarity, flow conditions, and general river activity before they make the drive.
Instead of guessing whether a river has blown out or cleared up, you’ll be able to check conditions in seconds.
For 2026 our focus is on three major improvements.
Expanding Camera Coverage
Several additional rivers are being added to the monitoring network this season.
The goal is simple: provide better regional coverage so anglers can make smarter decisions about where to fish.
More cameras mean more visibility across Alberta’s river systems.
Improving Media Updates
We’re refining how images and short video clips are captured and uploaded from the field.
Each camera now delivers clean, glare-free views of the river, giving a more accurate representation of real conditions.
These updates will appear directly on each river page.
Building a Better Platform
Behind the scenes we’ve been improving the StreamSight system so media updates arrive faster and more reliably.
What started as a simple proof-of-concept has evolved into a much more automated platform that will continue to grow over time.
Our long-term vision remains the same:
To create the most useful river monitoring platform for anglers in Alberta.
A Quick Thank You
StreamSight is still a small, grassroots project built by anglers for anglers.
The feedback, encouragement, and early support from the community has been incredible.
Every subscriber, every message, and every conversation at the river helps push the project forward.
See You on the Water
The countdown to April 1 is officially on.
We’ll be sharing more updates soon as cameras come online and new locations are added.
In the meantime, make sure to enter the Season Opener Giveaway and keep an eye on the river pages as the first images of the season start appearing.
Tight lines,
The StreamSight Team
