We’ve officially hit the halfway mark of summer! While some streams around Calgary are still a week or two away from ideal conditions, there’s no shortage of great fishing across the province.

West Central Alberta systems — including the Ram, Blackstone, and Lower Red Deer — are in fantastic shape right now. Fish are actively feeding on the surface, and summer bugs are out in full force. Expect to see increasing action on terrestrials as they start playing a bigger role in the fish’s diet.

Further south, flows around the Crowsnest are holding strong. Fish are looking up and still responding well to streamers — a perfect combo.

It’s been a wet summer overall, so keep an eye out for road washouts and new river structure. As waters around Calgary begin to clear, expect prime streamer conditions to follow.

Wherever you’re headed this long weekend, stay safe and tight lines! 🏞️🐟
