South Ram:The South Ram is in surprisingly great shape considering recent rains. Visibility is close to 4 feet and flows are very manageable. Fish were active, taking typical late-summer dries like hoppers, ants, and beetles, with streamers also drawing attention. Wildlife was abundant — everything from wild horses to bighorn sheep made an appearance. Traffic in the area was moderate.

North Ram:Flows on the North Ram are higher than normal for this time of year, with clarity slightly off but improving steadily as you move upstream from the grazing lease corner. By the time you reach the trunk road, visibility is nearly perfect. Despite the heavier water, fish and insect activity were excellent — stoneflies, drakes, and PMDs were all present. The fish were looking up but selective; a perfect drift was often rewarded with a curious look followed by a last-second refusal, making fly size critical to sealing the deal. Flows made crossings tricky, so caution is advised. The N. Ram River road is in decent shape, but like all gravel roads, watch for hazards — a few small cars out yesterday were clearly having a rough go.

Overall:Both stretches are fishing well, with good surface activity and fish responding to well-presented dries. Flows are up in places, so plan crossings carefully. Road conditions are passable but require attention. Expect to see a mix of locals, day trippers, and wildlife along the loop.
