It’s been a month since our last update—longer than intended—but rest assured this won’t be the norm. We’ve been deep in website development, and we’re excited about the progress. That said, I’ve managed to sneak out for a few solid fishing sessions, and the action hasn’t disappointed.
River Reports: Upper Red Deer & Clearwater – Streamers were highly effective here. Fish were aggressive and willing to chase.Bow & Stauffer – Nymphs were the ticket. Subsurface presentations produced consistent results.
Current Conditions: Open waters across central Alberta are looking good. Clarity is excellent.Water levels are low across the board—normal for this time of year—but keep an eye out as runoff approaches.James River & North Saskatchewan are beginning to color up with rising temps, and more streams will likely follow as the warm weather continues. What to Watch For:Skwala Stoneflies may be about to make their appearance. Watch the banks for shucks or adults drying their wings. If you see them, tie on a dry/dropper rig. Target thigh-deep water moving at a walking pace and fish tight to structure—log jams, rocks, and cutbanks.Look and listen for splashy eats.Pro Tips:As water temps climb, streamer action should improve. Start small in the morning and be ready to cycle through colors and patterns to find what works.Don’t overlook the slow edges early or the riffle tails during mid-day.
